NYSESLAT expectations for Grades Kindergarten vs. Grade One
Although Kindergarten and First Grade students take the same test and the Kindergartners just go as far as they can on the test while Grade One is expected to complete all items the expectations differ. The KINDERGARTEN STUDENT should recognize and be able to write initial letter sounds and final sounds of common words. S/he should be able to form upper and lower case letters and copy a sentence. S/he must listen for time order cues and other simple listening such as prepositions of location (in, on, near). In addition to these tasks, the FIRST GRADER is expected to write a descriptive paragraph using picture prompts. The writing should be adequately developed and include related detail and be organized. Mechanics should be employed. The FIRST GRADER should read sentence prompts such as: "What do you see?" and "Which signs tells you to go up?".

NYSESLAT DATES ARE SET
THE New York State testing of English Club Students is scheduled for the week of May 16 and May 23. The test measures annual achievement in reading, writing, listening comprehension and speaking.

Turn off TV Night
On Thursday, April 7 6:00-8:00 Craig School is searching for individuals who would like to use the English Club room to present a hands on activity for children, craft, food, dance, language, stories etc. that have a cultural theme. If you believe you can offer an activity please contact me- I will also be there that night to assist you. The room is equipped with a document camera, DVD and white board. We also have a very nice rug area.
SAARAS is Student of the Week
Saaras is a second grade student who enjoys Indian history and art. He enjoys eating homemade nan and admires his Mom most of all. He is reading "Race Team" now and hopes to be rich some day. He likes school best for his friends and his favorite animal is a monkey. He has a special talent for cleaning his toy box.
